Air source heat pumps convert heat from the outside air into heat for your home all year round. Air source heat pumps offer an environmentally-friendly alternative to heating your home. Helping you to reduce your carbon footprint and bills with one installation. The perfect choice if your home is fitted with radiators or underfloor heating.
Absolutely, Eco4 actively encourages the installation of air source heat pumps under the programmes. In order to qualify for heating improvements under Eco4 you will have to insulate any wall cavities or lofts which do not meet current insulation requirements. These insulation improvements will also be included within your Eco4 grant. We will run-through all options with you during your free home assessment visit.
Heat pumps are installed in tens of thousands of homes around the UK. However, there are a few stipulations your home must meet to benefit from a heat pump. Firstly heat pumps work with underfloor heating and radiators, so your home needs to be heated in one of these two ways. Also, you’ll need an outdoor area where the heat pump can be fitted to a wall or placed on the ground. Finally, as a heat pump does not provide hot water on demand, you’ll need a hot water cylinder that will store backup hot water that the pump produces. The size needed will depend on your hot water usage as a household.
Unless it is under strain (on particularly cold days or producing very high-temperature water), you won’t notice any noise from your heat pump. Most clients compare it to the sound of a fridge if you were standing a couple of meters away. All of the attached piping into your home also does not produce any noticeable noise.
The heat from the air is absorbed into a fluid which then passes through a heat exchanger and into the pump. This causes the temperature and transfers the heat into water. The water is then used to run through your underfloor heating, radiators or stored in the hot water cylinder to be used at another time. Pretty clever stuff, right?
